Aughnanure Castle
Located in Oughterard on the shores of Lough Corrib Aughnanure Castle stands tall. The Irish tower house was built in the 16th Century and serves as a strong symbol of the marriage of two powerful clans, the O'Flahertys and the O' Malleys. Dan O’Hara’s Homestead/Connemara Heritage & History Centre
Go and see where many an Irish song was sung and poem recited. Dan O' Hara was a simple man who rented him home and land. Nine people lived a happy life in this little cottage which stands in the shadows of The Twelve Bens. With breathtaking panoramic views in abundance this little dwelling gives the visitor a very clear insight as to how life was for a tenent farmer in 19th Century Connemara.A story that ends sadly, but a beautiful and happy cottage.
