- hmoone262874 12/05/2022Elegant hotel with excellent location, good food and friendly staff We recently had a ladies weekend in Galway to visit the Christmas Markets and stayed at the Victoria Hotel. The hotel's location is excellent, just minutes from Eyre Square and the main shopping district and restaurants. You can walk everywhere. The decor is elegant and attractive. We had lunch on arrival in the Bar and the food was very nice, as were the staff during our entire visit, so friendly and accommodating. Rooms were warm and cosy, bedding very comfortable and perfect for what we needed. We would all go back again for another visit as we had a fantastic weekend in every way.read moreread lesscaoimh_nm2017 6/05/2022Fantastic staff great food lovely drinks Max our waiter was amazing friendly and made our evening! Lovely room and welcome. We got here 3 hours early but we got us into our room 15 mins after we arrived and the gent on the desk offered great advice and was very helpful. We waited in the bar and got drinks and eggs Florentine for breakfast. That was the only downside. The portion was tiny but in fairness tasted great. Not good value for money. All in all the staff are great and specially our server in the restaurant. I know it's rough times for everyone in hospitality at the moment having just reopened but you're doing a great job. Hats off.
Dean & Andrearead moreread less - FlaminNora1519 3/09/2022Perfect location for our Galway and Aran Islands Trip From the outset this stay was exactly what we needed it to be . The reception gent was excellent - helpful , efficient and experienced . He helped us with our bags , gave directions to the free parking around the corner and answered our questions . The room was excellent and a great location for Eyre square and the City .The breakfast was good quality , efficient and tasty .We stayed here to catch the shuttle bus to Rossaveal ferry terminal to go across to the Aran islands - and it was perfect for that purpose . The pick up point is 10m up the road from the front doors ! We would have left our car in Q park for the four extra days we were away , to make use of the really good discounted rate available after the one night complimentary parking - but that rate is only accessible for 3 days , so we parked elsewhere.( I might have missed that info on the website , but If it isn’t there , it might be useful to add .) overall a great stay . - E B 10/04/2021Myself and my friend recently stayed for two nights at the Victoria Hotel - Galway. Upon arrival we were greeted by the friendly receptionist. We had a brought a bottle of prosecco with us to have as a celebration in our room. The receiptionist directed us to the warm and friendly front of house staff (Dearbhla), who kindly opened the bottle for us and provided us with an ice bucket to chill. We ate in the restaurant that evening and the food was incredible!! We both got the sea bass which was superb, along with the creamy sauce and chorizo. The hotel rooms were very clean and if we required anything else (such as an iron/ironing board), we were seen to immediately. Throughout the evening and during our stay the staff were very attentive and friendly. Location is just off Eyre Square and most city attractions are within walking distance. Parking is available at nearby car park which may be complementary depending on what deal you made on your booking. The hotel may be a bit more expensive than some rivals but we feel it was worth it.
The hotel appeared to be very well maintained and plenty of Covid precautions available, although it was a pity that the hand gel dispenser at the main door did not work at any time over the 3 days. First impressions!!.
Staff were excellent and most courteous, from the housekeeping lady that allowed me jump the Que for the lift when I was bringing in the luggage to the reception staff that sorted out my parking.
The room was spotlessly clean and very well presented, although we both got a bit of a stale air smell when we entered the room as if it had not been opened up for a few days. Maybe good in these Covid times but again First Impressions.
The room was serviced each day with fresh towels and a general clean up.
Breakfast was table service and excellent both in variety and quality as well as quantity. They must have very good kitchen staff because we ate in the hotel for lunch one day and each night also and the fare was excellent. Same menu each night but there was enough for us to sample a variety of dishes.
So overall a big thumbs up to the establishment and if we were visiting the City of Tribes again, we would have no hesitation in staying here again.read moreread less - heatherm883 12/01/2021Winter get away My husband and I are just home from 3 very enjoyable nights at The Victoria Hotel. From the friendly welcome at check in where the very pleasant receptionist (from Derry) assisted us to move rooms to suit my preferences, the friendly and helpful breakfast server (from Laois) Dearbhla in the restaurant and the lovely Lisa who checked us, the staff are fabulous without fault. The bedrooms are clean and comfy with tea/coffee facilities, safe, hairdryer, toiletries and a television.
We had bed and breakfast with evening meal and everything we ate was delicious and well presented.
Parking was not on site but a few minutes walk to a multi storey car park and free parking with the card from the car park.

The only strange thing that i'd never experienced before was at the breakfast.
When we asked for coffee - we both drink coffee, 99% of the time we would get a pot of coffee brought to the table. Here at this hotel, we were given a cup of boiling water each, with 2 sachets of instant dried coffee. This is the little coffee packet you would find next to your kettle in the room.
To get a proper cup, we were told we needed to pay 3 euro per cup. The room was very nice, as was the bathroom in the room.
We dined in Queen Street and were disappointed on arrival to see the menu was different and smaller than the one shown on the website. The food overall was nice but nothing special. Our starters were both very nice (Caesar salad and goats cheese) however our mains were not as good (burger which was dry and fish and chips). The service in Queen Street however was amazing and all the staff were very friendly and attentive.
When leaving the bar that night we enquired what time breakfast was served until the next morning and we were told 10:30, but when we arrived for breakfast at 10:10 the following morning we were told breakfast had stopped being served which was again, disappointing as we had breakfast included in our stay. The girl who was in the restaurant cleaning up told us we could take any of the continental breakfast that had not been put away yet back up to our room with us which we did.
